Introduction
Purpose:
To oversee individual life new business and underwriting to ensure efficient and effective workflow in the department and to ensure correct underwriting decisions are made and to oversee the functions of branch operations

Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Oversee new business process on individual life policies
•Oversee the efficient and effective administration of new business at Head Office and branch level according to best practice
oContinuously evaluate workflow processes and change processes where necessary; from capturing of the application in the branch to the acceptance of the application in Head Office
oMonitor deadlines set out for staff
oAttend to escalated queries from Sales, Office and Regional Managers
•Liaise with role players in the new business process
2.Oversee the underwriting process on individual life policies
•Oversee the efficient and effective administration of underwriting at Head Office according to best practice
oLiaise with Re-insurers and medical experts on interpretation of certain medical conditions and to advise the underwriters on the correct decisions
oAttend to escalated queries from Sales, Office and Regional Managers
oProvide guidance to staff on underwriting issues
oInform staff of any/all changes to underwriting principles
3.Co-ordinate and monitor complaints resolution and compliance
•Monitor the timeously resolution of complaints in accordance with the complaints resolutions policy
•Provide inputs on the complaints resolutions policy and procedure
4.Provide Input into Strategy
•Provide reports for Stratco
•Develop, maintain and implement changes to existing processes that may have an influence on the budget (or that have to be budgeted for)
•Develop, maintain and implement departments’ strategy regarding processes (e.g. what information may be provided to field managers and clients, etc., how do we deal with certain underwriting decisions e.g. prostate cancer, back problems etc.)
•Determine staff compliment necessary to ensure departments remain effective and that work is done in the most efficient manner
5.Produce reports
•Provide weekly report to Senior Executive Manager: Administration on daily functioning of the departments, challenges and issues
•Report to MANCO on IL new business and Branch operations
•Periodic reporting to Operational and other departments
6.Oversee the administration of the Carefree Life Retirement Annuity Fund
•Ensure the annual RA certificates are completed for mailing to clients
•Oversee the correctness and submission of tax directives to SARS on claims
•Oversee the compilation and submission of documents and monitoring of Section 14 transfers
•Oversee the submission of SARS, SARB and other regulatory reports
•Ensure the compilation of the report for the quarterly Carefree Life Retirement Annuity Fund Trustee Meeting
•Manage and oversee that Finance are assisted with Carefree Life RA financial statements
•Assist Fund Valuator with Carefree Life RA fund valuations
7.Oversee the management of client liaison at branch offices
•Oversee the service delivery to external and internal clients
•Design and develop standard operating procedures (data capturing, client services manuals)
•Oversee the efficiency of client service and the timeous and accurate processing of policy amendments and requests (surrenders, cancellations, complaints, general amendments, bank/ persal detail changes, beneficial changes, finance enquiries and general enquiries)
8.Oversee the management of new business data capturing and processing at the branch offices
•Oversee the timeous and accurate processing of new business data capturing
•Oversee the quality control of new business
•Ensure efficiency of processes of new business to head office (Tick off)
9.Oversee claims administration at the branch offices
•Oversee compliance with claims department procedures for handling claims in branch offices
•Ensure turn-around times are met at branch offices
10.Manage and oversee budgetary control and logistics
•Manage national branch office expenses
•Ensure branch offices adheres to the corporate identity
•Sign off and take accountability of new budgets on new agreements
11.Oversee FAIS & Compliance requirements
•Oversee that employee representatives are continuously supervised when rendering services under direct/ indirect supervision
•Oversee that supervision records are up to date
•Oversee that all fit and proper requirements are adhered to
•Oversee Compliance at branch offices are 100%
12.Accountable for the fair treatment of clients
•Keep abreast with changes and updates of the industry (TCF)
•Responsible for satisfaction survey and oversee quality of service
Requirements
1. Formal Education
•Degree: Risk Management/Business Management/relevant
2. Technical/Legal Certification
•RE1 (required) & RE 5 (advantage)
•Full Qualification recognised by FSB
3. Experience
•5 Years’ Experience in long term insurance underwriting
•Atleast 3 years in Management
4. Knowledge
•Legislation (FAIS, FICA, LTIA)
