Introduction
Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) is a large-scale copper and cobalt producer with substantial high-grade mineral reserves, located in the Lualaba Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in the Central African Copperbelt. KCC is a joint venture between Katanga Mining Ltd. (75%) and the state-owned mining companies, Gecamines (20%) and SIMCO (5%).
The operation consists of open pits and underground mines, one concentrator and a hydrometallurgical processing facility. KCC is constructing the Whole Ore Leach plant to increase throughput capacity and improve recoveries to sustainably produce 300,000 tonnes of copper and 22,000 tonnes of cobalt per year by 2019.
KCC employs more than 7,000 workers (employees and contractors). The company develops local suppliers and surrounding communities through community and infrastructure improvement programmes.

Specification
The Chief Geologist will:
•Contribute to company safety goals
•Ensure compliance with the Company policies and procedures on Health, Safety and Environment
•Manage day-to-day operations within the Geology department and provide leadership and direction to the different teams.
•Execute short term and long term strategies that support growth of the geology department
•Develop the department organizational structure to ensure adequate coverage in all Geology-related processes
•Oversee existing geological methods and processes, reviewing and developing improvements where required, and confirm that this is communicated and documented as per Company policy
•Ensure training compliance and implement training and development if and when needed
•Manage capital budgets and contracts, and be competent on reporting department outputs
•Monitor extraction, production, grade control and stockpile blending to optimize grade/dilution control in a safe, timely and cost-conscious manner, and manage reconciliation programs to ensure Company targets are met
•Assist with the planning, scheduling and budgeting of the exploration and mine planning strategies, and work closely with other mine departments to achieve strategic objectives
•Ensure the integrity and validity of all data used in mineral resource estimation by following established QAQC protocols
•Oversee preparation and compliance for the relevant Geology sections of NI 43-101 Technical Report (or similar)
Requirements
•15+ years of relevant experience in both operational and exploration capacities
•Relevant professional Geologist certification is preferred
•BS/MS in Geology
•Experience with 3D modelling and database software: Datamine, Surpac, AutoCAD and Fusion Software preferred
•Experience with MS Office Suite is required
