Develop, implement and manage strategic business plans for the strategic areas of TIA. Lead and manage TIA strategic technologies portfolios with special reference to Technology development funding and pre-commercialisation support. To make high impact strategic investments in partnerships with Universities and SMME’s in focused technology areas, in order to stimulate innovation that could become long-term TIA investment.

•Financial management and revenue growth – Prepare STA operational and investment budget and forecasts for Exco and Board approval. Manage and report on performance against budget on a quarterly basis. Manage and monitor the timeous disbursement of funding to ensure optimal operation of technology and innovation projects. Identify new funding opportunities and raise additional income from third party investors. Manage repayment obligations of projects to TIA (Equity and royalties, investments and loans).
•Stakeholder management and thought leadership– Develop and leverage key partnerships in collaboration with the stakeholder management unit. Manage and implement stakeholder relationships in collaboration with the stakeholder management unit. Develop and implement the STA stakeholder strategy. Ensure that customers know what to expect and receive the service promised within the agreed time frames (TIA funded projects receive the support they need to successfully move to the next stage in the innovation life cycle). Provide Technology Innovation thought leadership in South Africa and globally. Participate in events, meetings, workshops and conferences by giving input, avail skill, competency and expertise. Participation should result in positive input, impact and giving direction in the Technology NSI.
•Planning, governance, compliance and reporting- Define and analyse the project portfolio. Develop and implement STA strategy, Operational Divisional Plan including, business operational plan aligned to TIA strategy. Develop and implement all relevant policies and frameworks. Adhere to the unit’s policies and legislation. Compile and manage the Risk register for the unit to mitigate potential future risks to the organization. Ensure compliance to all TIA systems (performance management, HR, finance, Stakeholder information, fund management, reporting etc.). Respond to internal and external audit type X findings. Ensure timeous and accurate reporting as per requirements
•Innovation Funding and Pre-Commercialisation – Assess Projects within agreed time frames. Effectively manage the financial budget of the unit in compliance with policies and legislation. Attract, monitor and manage the development of technology innovation in projects within the STA to reach commercialisation. Ensure that the Portfolio information is accurately and completely recorded on the Fund management system. Render support and input in the formulation and submission of quarterly and annual reports. Conduct regular Market Analyses to determine future growth opportunities
•Process adherence and improvement – Ensure that people in the unit understand and achieve KPA’s. Review performance against agreed performance standards. Ensure that people in the unit live the values and culture of TIA and are constantly developed to improve performance. Provide effective leadership to the unit (Mentoring and Coaching). Ensure that the unit has the necessary tools and mechanisms to execute core processes. Continuously implement improvements regarding the process.
Qualifications and Experience:
•Relevant Engineering/Science degree with Honours or equivalent
•10+ years’ experience in the technology development or research environment and appropriate industry, such as commercialisation products; and
•5 years' experience in the management of people.
