Internal / External

Purpose of Role
The role is responsible for ensuring that the grade control drilling functions requirement is delivered to the required standards, achieving mining business goals; Ensuring RC drilling is efficiently operational both technical and productive, to produce quantity and quality geological samples to the planned drill depth.

Role Context
Reports to the Geology Manage section so that planned grade control drilling meters are achieved safely and cost effectively; Ensure that drilling equipment are operated effectively and safely; To make sure that drilling areas are safely demarcated; Monitor and analyse drilling performance for productivity improvement; Daily control and management of drill consumables stocked against usage; Provide direct management of the RC drill site operations and equipment’s maintenance; Bit/hammer usage against meters drilled and understand riffle chips sample splitting technology; Coordinate with mining and mineral resource management departments in order to achieve mining business goals; Attend meetings and provide reports daily, weekly, monthly as required; Conform to governance guidelines in terms of safety by continuously updating all RC related drilling procedures; Follow budgeting guidelines and bring about necessary changes to curb costs in order to achieve annual operating and capital budgets

Core work outputs:
Develop and execute RC drilling strategies in order to achieve and support mining business goals. Develop, approved and maintain SOP; Coordinate with geology and rock engineering specialists to assess drilling areas for faults, dykes and fissures that may result with unsafe drilling condition; All drilling equipment’s and personnel are removed for blasting as per blaster’s recommendation; Prepare and summarize progress reports for management as required; Support drilling personnel and recommend optimization technologies; Lead, manage and control effectiveness and efficiency of the RC drilling operation. Budgeting and cost implementation control; Create and maintain good and healthy relationship with employees;
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Grade 12/ NQF Level 4, A Bachelor’s degree will be an advantage, Open cast Blasting ticket, Basic RC drill mechanical experience is significant; Valid driver’s licence (EB) and Code 10 will be an advantage; Minimum of 8 years’ experience in management leadership in RC drilling operation off which 3 years in a pit mining environment; Must be computer literate; Good understanding of quality geological sampling procedure’s and controls; Should have excellent command in English both verbally and written; Must able to adapt and work effectively in a multi-disciple environment

Inherent requirements
Must be medically fit; will carry a legal appointment of a 2.6.1.
