Job Purpose: To provide intellectual property opinions and advice in respect of TIA’s projects, platforms and programmes and to generally provide guidance to the TIA internal environment regarding all intellectual property matters to ensure that TIA’s rights are secured.

•Providing quality support and advice to TIA platforms, projects and business units regarding intellectual property matters through amongst other things, novelty and infringement searches and advice on appropriate intellectual property strategies.
•Drafting of reports regarding the outcomes of the abovementioned intellectual property searches and assessments.
•Assisting in the drafting and review of contracts and the resolution of disputes from an intellectual property point of view.
•Attending meetings and consultations with internal and external clients and stakeholders and providing necessary input on intellectual property matters.
•Interfacing with and monitoring the work of external intellectual property attorneys acting on behalf of TIA.
•Attending investment committee meetings and providing intellectual property advice.
•Participating in internal and external workshops and seminars to articulate TIA’s position regarding intellectual property matters and create awareness of intellectual property issues.
•A science or engineering degree
•Admission as an attorney
•Admission as a patent attorney
•At least 4 years experience in a technology innovation and commercialisation environment of which at least two years must be post admission as a patent attorney
•Problem solving skills.
•Legal analysis and report writing skills
•Knowledge of local and international intellectual property trends
•Knowledge of the regulatory environment within which TIA operates
•Knowledge of technology commercialisation trends
