PASA is the payment system management body recognised by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), in terms of the National Payment System Act of 1998, to organise, manage and regulate the participation of its members in the payment system.
This role is to create, implement and oversee external communication programmes for PASA including Public Relation engagement and Media Communication through different communication channels (e.g. Web site, Project Communication, Conferences, ceremonies, events and other interventions) and in line with PASA’s communication strategy.
Additionally, to ensure effective and timeous scheduled and/or predefined communication outputs are achieved e.g. Annual Report, National Payments Plan or industry “topic specific” information and educational campaigns.

Key Stakeholder Management including Communication and Interaction
Internal: PASA ExO, Committees, PASA Functional areas (Strategy, Communication and Capacity development, Legal, Governance and Regulatory functions, Programme Management, Change Enablement, Other support functions).
External: PASA structures, SARB, National Treasury, BASA, Banking Ombud, SABRIC, media agencies, free-lance journalists, radio and television producers
Education and Experience Required:
•> 10 years hands on experience in Communication and Public Relations in a Payments Environment with no qualification; or
•> 5 years hands on experience with a proven track record in Communication and Public Relation environments and a relevant Bachelor’s degree;
•The completion of the PASA Certificate in Foundational Payments Course will be an advantage;
•A relevant post graduate qualification will be an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
•Working in a collaborative environment and achieving results through collaborative platforms as opposed to collocated teams
•Developing and implementing strategic communication plans for complex projects and programmes
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including report writing, copywriting and presentation creation)
•Excellent knowledge of news media and media relations, digital media and other communication channels and proven ability to apply these for effective communication
•Proven ability to develop partnerships for communication
Core Responsibility 1 – Managing public relations and media liaison
•Assisting with media engagement, assessing media requests, formulating responses to ad-hoc written media requests and providing support for media interviews
•Drafting media releases and/ or articles and managing effective distribution thereof
•Ensuring that scheduled and ad-hoc PASA media communication is tracked and reported on as well as monitoring of external media referencing PASA or key projects/ topics
•Working with project and change resources to maintain an up to date depository of Media FAQs for all major PASA projects and topics
Core responsibility 2 – Managing PASA’s social media platforms
•Maintaining and growing PASA’s social media presence by identifying new communication opportunities
•Providing guidance and assistance to Executive Management and SMEs in producing relevant content (articles, though leadership pieces) for social media publication
•Creating and managing social media content, as and when requested/ needed
•Monitoring, managing and reporting on social media activities as it pertains to PASA, identified stakeholders and relevant topics and/ or projects
•Supporting key PASA events by drafting and executing social media activities for each event
Core responsibility 3 – PASA brand management and profiling
•Assisting with effective maintenance and building of the PASA Brand through assessing, securing and managing external communication and profiling opportunities for PASA
•Coordinate PASA’s participation in external campaigns and events – assessing opportunities and assisting with preparation for such campaigns/ events
•Overseeing the PASA website to ensure brand and messaging coherency
Core Responsibility 4 – Supporting project communication and consumer education efforts
•Providing expert input into project specific communication strategies, as and when needed
•Working with change and communication specialists by providing expert input into topic specific industry educational campaigns
•Assessing timelines, narrative and collateral of different campaigns, creating a consolidated view and ensuring optimal alignment and output
•Ensuring educational campaigns align with PASA communication strategy and guidelines
Core Responsibility 5 – Other external communication support
•Supporting the output of predefined communication pieces such as the Annual Report, National Payments Plan etc., by ensuring proof reading and graphic design is included in the project plan and is executed to the satisfaction of the project team, whilst aligned with PASA brand and communication guidelines
•Be the custodian of formal external communication templates and guidelines, including letterheads, presentation templates, style guide etc.
•Ensuring all PASA EXO staff are aware of and have access to the latest templates and guidelines
