The purpose of the role is to implement the appropriate SHEQ management strategy for the business unit to create stakeholder value, and to provide the capacity and support for the BU to achieve sustained performance improvement on a platform of world class SHEQ management service.
Job Functions Operations

1. Internal processes (governance, risk and compliance)
Ensure compliance to governing legislation

2. Integrated SHEQ management
Actively involved in the successful use and application of SHEQ management tools
o Identify bottom performers and communicate to Operations and training as required
o Continuous focus on unallocated kilometers to agreed standard: analyzed and allocated as required
o Identify riskiest performers and communicate to Operations and training as required
o Trend and analyses information and communicate to Operations and training
o Continuous monitoring on the 4 key drivers to achieve required rating (unidentified drivers, overdue for download, overdue for coaching, coaching effectiveness)
Assistance with fatigue management through monitoring of working hour and resting period compliance through various tools available
Ensure accurate and timeous capturing of environmental reporting requirements on the Credit360 system and ensure that all supporting documents are provided

3. Isometrics/data analytics/organizational SHEQ diagnostics
Ensure on-going training and support for new and existing users
Ensure accurate and timeous reporting and investigation of incidents on the Isometrics system
Ensure timeous routing of all incidents
Assist with implementation of findings from incident investigations
Implement the use of all Isometrics modules in your BU (i.e. Document control, BBS, Incident management and Meetings etc.)
Ensure timeous and accurate capturing of all reporting requirements in Isometrics (SHEQ meeting, BCM meeting, evacuation drills, site visits, LTIFR, working hours – wage sheet, audit reports etc.)

4. Implement the SHEQ Management Protocols within the BU
Participate, prepare and review all required risk assessments (as well as new business opportunities/products)
Conduct all internal SHEQ Audits and ensure that all preventative and corrective measures are implemented
Participate in the implementation and review of the BCM plan (business continuity management), schedule 6-monthly review meeting
Conduct 6-monthly BCM simulations and conduct evacuation drills or as per set criteria
Implement strategies to minimize or eliminate the Big 5 (minor accidents, major accidents, injuries, DriveCam and DriveSmart)Lead the investigation process and co-ordinate input from functional support and operations
Conduct monthly site visits and implement deviations
Ensure all legal appointments are in place
Ensure that SHE legal training is conducted according to schedule
Ensure that safety registers/checklists are conducted and deviations implemented
Ensure that monthly SHEQ meetings are scheduled, conducted, constitution in place
Ensure compliance with regards to contractor management
Conduct SHEQ induction as required (new and refresher)

5. BBS and VFL
Ensure that BBS is rolled out as per schedule and ensure ongoing training (new and refresher)
Assist in creating a sustainable safety culture where employees report observations (positive and negative observations)
Co-ordinate BBS observations (and log on system where required), report on them regularly and ensure that feedback (including preventative plans) are conducted
Assist with training and awareness for Visible Felt Leadership – always lead by example

6. Collision scene attendance and investigation
Ensure that you attend each collision – as far as possible
Assist with on the scene investigation (interview witness, obtain detail of all parties on the collision scene: EMS services, third parties, witness, SAP details etc.)
Assist with any COID documentation if our employees have been injured
Assist and co-ordinate all the evidence to complete the review/investigation, and that the review is presented as per the timelines
Ensure that all preventative and corrective measures are implemented accordingly

7. External Audits
Participate and assist with preparation of industry and stakeholder specific risk audits (BP, Shell, Total, SQAS, RTMS, Mining audits, 20 keys etc.)
Implement and close out of findings and suggestions from external audits

8. Change Management
Identify potential high risk exposure areas or business opportunities
Implement and manage change management interventions reduce risk exposure

9. SHEQ protocols/policy implementation
Implement SHEQ protocols and Industry standards and ensure compliance thereof
Implementation of supporting documents as identified (forms, checklists, work instructions etc.)

10. Internal customers
Build and maintain strong key internal customer relationships at all levels
Comprehensive understanding with regards to the SLA within your BU
Attendance of operational and driver Smartcoms

11. Leadership and People
Understanding of the company strategy with regards to the 6 trucker elements, that distinguishes BWT as an employer of choice

12. Projects and Innovation
Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
Actively drive and participate in centralized safety campaigns within the BU
Identify trends and create awareness within the BU
Relevant tertiary qualification
SAMTRAC or equivalent (short course in safety management)
2-3 years’ experience in health and safety
Valid passport
Driver’s license
Attendance to accident scenes (after hours and weekends as and when required)
Health and safety knowledge
Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Knowledge of risk management in the transport industry will be advantageous
Knowledge of the operating and legislation requirements of a transport and logistics industry
Knowledge of TETA accredited training requirements
Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
Strong communication skills in English and Afrikaans
