The purpose of this role is to provide effective, high quality Employee Relations services within SAEC in compliance with Human Resources processes and relevant SAEC Level Documents, legislation, agreements, and standards.

Industries Mining

Provide ER support to the Coal business (including disciplinary and grievance procedures, ER climate surveys, labour stakeholder relations, workplace forums and dispute resolution processes);

Develop and maintain constructive and cordial relationships with employee representatives, and trade union representatives and leaders;

Ensure proper application of the disciplinary and grievance procedures concerning fairness and consistency;

Ensure employee awareness of ER procedures and practices, and updates when required;

Provide advice on interpretation and implementation of labour legislation and in-house labour relations support;

Provide advice by way of drafting opinion in matters that are not sufficiently complex to warrant a referral to the company’s attorneys;

Obtain and compile information required by Management for salary negotiations (e.g. internal statistics, external surveys etc.);

Depending on the complexity of the dispute, attend all matters referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Medication and Arbitration;

Ensure updates on all referred matters to the company attorneys are available and report monthly on status of these matters;

Present relevant training on industrial relations in general and including changes in policies, procedures and systems;

Assist with the preparation of all negotiations between the company and employee representative groupings and producing draft negotiation agreements.

Serious contenders will have a Degree / BTECH / National diploma in Human Resources with a minimum of 4 years’ Labour Relations experience within a Mining and Metals environment, with at least 1 years’ experience within a supervisory capacity;

Experience in Mining environment is essential;

In-depth understanding of the nature of opportunities and issues faced by operations is essential;
