To manage and provide administrative support during the recoveries and liabilities claims process, and support of the business strategy for excellent service and growth.

•Achieve a minimum of 65% success rate on the quantum of the book of recoveries against insured third parties.
•Achieve a 16% success rate against uninsured third parties.
•Ensure and contribute to minimisation of general expenses.


•Ensure that all stakeholders communication is accurate, timeous, professional and relevant.
•Ensure client complaints are resolved within the required timelines.
•Achieve the required customer satisfaction scores.

Business Processes
Receiving instructions from the in-house claims department to recover client damages caused by a third party, or defend or process a third-party demand against a client, and delegating to members of the team.

Managing the facilitation of and assisting (when required) with the following functions of the recoveries team:
•Determining the percentage of liability of the third party;
•Tracing of third parties;
•Obtaining third party insurer information, such as claim numbers and claims handler contact details;
•Sending pre-quantum letter of demand;
•Receiving the quantum documents in respect of client repairs or compensation;
•Completing, compiling and sending of the letter of demand;
•Following up with insurers;
•Concluding settlement agreements;
•Following up on payments;
•Concluding settlement or payment agreements with Uninsured third parties;
•Monitoring payments;
•Identifying payments on the banking statements.
•Keeping clients informed;
•Instructing claims handlers on the reimbursement of client excesses after successful recoveries;
•Closing of recoveries;
•Reporting to Management, Insurer, and Binder Holder.

Overseeing, facilitating and assisting with the following functions of the Liabilities Team:
•Determining the percentage of liability of the client;
•Formulating a legal argument to the third party, third party insurer, or third-party attorney;
•Negotiation of settlement;
•Conclusion of a settlement agreement;
•Requesting and following-up on payment by the in-house claim’s handler to the third party
•Closing matters.
•Reporting to Management, Insurer, and Binder Holder.

To review each recovery and liability matter weekly and follow up with the team members if necessary.

To review the age analysis of the business, follow up for payment from creditors, and resolve issues related thereto.

Qualification and Skills:

•LLB Law Degree

Knowledge of:

•The insurance industry and major role players, such as insurers and the processes of their recoveries and liabilities departments.
•The Law of Delict in general, in particular in-depth knowledge of the 5 elements of delict that must be proven to be successful when recovering against a third party;
•Insurance law, especially the insurer’s right to subrogate the insured by stepping into the shoes of the insured and recovering the damages from third parties;

Minimum experience:

At least 1-3 Years’ experience in respect of:

•Leading and/or management of a team;
•Recoveries against insured third parties;
•Recoveries against Uninsured third parties;
•Negotiating and defending demands by third parties, third party attorneys, and third-party insurers against clients;
•Either directly or indirectly involvement in litigation, by litigating or giving instructions on steps of litigation
