What the job entails
Technology: Let’s be honest; this is where it all starts. A lot of work has been done on The Pro Shop ecommerce platform which was recently relaunched. Is it perfect? No way and it never will be! We work to improve things daily. Your role will be to work with The Pro Shop’s third-party development partner to ensure that the platform performs optimally, as well as manage new platform enhancements which makes the buying experience memorable… for the right reasons!
Shop-keeping: This is arguably more important online than in the physical world. You won’t have the advantage soft lighting and the smell of brewing coffee to draw customers in. In The Pro Shop Online space, it means an acute understanding of customer relationship management and the tech tools that support this, direct marketing and affiliate relationships. It means working closely with the marketing and merchandising teams, understanding what products need to be promoted, when, at what price points and to whom. We are at the point of customer single view and armed with this information / data your responsibility will be to understand the individual needs to each customer based on their personal history with us.
Content: The Pro Shop prides itself in offering the largest range of golfing equipment and related products on the continent. This needs to reflect accurately in the online store. In fact, the online store will offer an even a greater range of products than the physical stores. You will manage the content team and liaise with the merchandise team, to ensure that all The Pro Shop products are accurately offered online.
Order Processing: The Pro Shop has a unique order fulfilment process. Distribution happens via its geographically located stores, closest to point of order. You will liaise with store managers and sales staff, to ensure the right stores fulfil the right orders, in the most efficient manner possible.
Shipping: We have a courier partner and this relationship needs to be managed and enhanced. Shipping is a key cost metric in the online sales cycle, and you will need to work smart here, ensuring this aspect of the chain remains as efficient as possible. There are many real reasons why we say the toughest part of the of e-commerce is the final mile. You will strive to overdeliver and under promise in all things you do, fulfilling all our customers’ expectations in predetermined and understood time frames. Click and collect, packaging, costing…
Advisory: Sometimes it is a bit of a leap of faith buying a set of golf clubs online. This is changing every day and we are seeing more golfing products being sold online. Your intimate knowledge of golf and golf related products, the ability to advise customers, and the delivery of world class product content will be paramount in achieving sales targets. It is this process that builds credibility and you will be expected to share this knowledge with your staff.
Who are we looking for?
This is the most important part… The only way we discriminate is that you must be a loyal team player and can mobilise and lead a small dedicated team. You need to have a flair for the online world and technology, ensuring that our platforms, processes and solutions remain relevant and cutting edge. All mainstream Microsoft Office packages will have been mastered many years ago, and you will need a demonstrable history in mastering other relevant software programmes.
Did we mention you will also be required to work your butt off, especially when things go a little awry at certain times of the year like Black Friday! We won’t negotiate deadlines but will reward you when you deliver! Thus, it’s fair to say the ability to work under pressure is a given. In terms of experience, much of this is gained on the job and we look forward to meeting individuals who have interesting stories to tell about their lives on the e-commerce front line. A formal qualification in commerce, digital marketing will be an advantage, while we also have an appreciation for qualifications earned from the University of Life. Remuneration will be based on experience and in line with these requirements.
