Specification

KEY ROLE:

As Construction Manager, managing the team and resources allocated to the assigned project cohesively and efficiently as well as administer and execute multidisciplinary engineering and construction projects within the desired time, cost and quality. The Construction Manager must be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary project team and be able to cope with a high-intensity environment.

Assist in the coordination of the design deliverables to support continuous and efficient construction.

Conduct due-diligence reviews on the constructability of project design, permitting and statutory requirements before construction.

Plan, define/formulate contract and procurement strategy.

Collating FIDIC, GCC, JBCC and NEC Tender and contract documentation, administrating the tender process and evaluation and adjudication of tenders.

Conduct efficient contract administration and site record-keeping procedures as per the contract conditions.

Actively reviewing and managing contractors’ documentation and activities to ensure compliance the overall project plan, project objectives and statutory requirements.

Provide templates and guidance for progress reports to the various construction supervisors and their teams.

Assist with construction estimating, scheduling, procurement, resourcing, cost control and reporting for all work being performed by the contractor.

Site point of contact for all contractors and the main liaison between the client and contractors.

Client relationship management and experience, actively communicating with clients on the status and health of the project and all contract all related matters.

Skills development and mentoring of the team is an important role for WSP as a Global business.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Will include amongst others to:

•Develop, monitor and control project scope, time and quality;
•Coordination and interface with clients to ensure the client’s expectations are achieved;
•Liaise with clients and other key role players;
•Manage internal budgets and expenditure;
•Manage a team effectively to ensure timely deliverables;
•Effectively report on projects;
•Accurate, effective and efficient document control;
•Planning and scheduling of construction work;
•Identification and arrangement of specialist investigations;
•Compilation of Tender and Contract Documentation;
•Managing the tendering, adjudication and contractor appointment process;
•Management of Contracts during execution stages;
•Managing of construction and contract related project risks;
•Collation of reports and information;
•Interface with client’s professional team including project manager, architect, quantity surveyor and engineers;
•Planning and scheduling of construction work;
•Actively review contractors documentation and planning in terms of scheduling, procurement, resources and quality to ensure;
•alignment with overall project plan and objectives;
•Chair contractual and progress meetings with contractors, client and other stakeholders;
•Monitoring of construction progress and provide updates into the master construction schedule;
•Issuing of contract instructions and evaluation of contract variation orders;
•Measuring of construction works and evaluating contractor’s payment certificates;
•Managing expenditure during construction vs budget estimates;
•Receiving, evaluating and determining of contract claims and disputes;
•Quality management and ensure compliance with quality control plans;
•Completion and hand over certification;
•Negotiate final accounts;
•Safety and Environmental management and ensure compliance with management plans and legislation;
•Closeout of construction packages;
•Client relationship management, protecting WSP market share and densifying our multi-disciplinary offering with existing clients;

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


The candidate should have:

•A Bachelor’s or B.Tech Degree in Civil Engineering from a reputable tertiary institution;
•Registration as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng with ECSA is a requirement
•Minimum of10 years’ experience in the field of construction supervision, construction and contract management, with a strong bias to multi-disciplinary projects
•Postgraduate degree, diploma or further formal training in Construction Contracts is advantageous
•Registration with SACPCMP or PMI (as PMP) is advantageous;
