POSITION SYNOPSIS:

Responsible for providing SAEC with independent legal support and advice to ensure legal risks are identified and managed in accordance with the strategy and commercial objectives of SAEC.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provides legal advice on areas within the accountability the Legal and Compliance Function and so doing give effect to the Legal Operating Model;

Establishes and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders of the Legal and Compliance Function;

Support delivery of SAEC’s business plan and the legal business plan, as required;

Support Manager Legal in execution of accountability for SAEC’s Material Legal Risks;

Supports identification of legal risks affecting SAEC and advises on the management of these risks;

Provides independent legal advice to SAEC functional clients on strategic and complex commercial issues and dispute resolution;

Supports development of the Legal & Compliance Operating Model with SAEC’s Mandate, Accountabilities and Operating Model and coordinates delivery against SAEC’s Operating Model in the Legal and Compliance Functional area of accountability;

Provides input into the development and execution of Analysis and Improvement activities within Legal and Compliance team;

Supports the implementation of SAEC’s governance requirements for their areas of accountability;

Provides input into reporting templates and requirements to support the Manager Legal;

Acts as a knowledge management champion.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:

Serious contenders will have a Degree / BTECH in Law with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in a Resources environment of which 2 years at least in a Managerial position;

Experience in resources, commercial and dealing with large corporate entities is essential;

An in-depth understanding of the South African mineral law dispensation, environmental laws and general mining regulatory framework is essential;

Experience in managing and providing strategic legal advice on complex and diverse issues is essential;
