Introduction

We’re seeking a qualified National Business Development Manager with specialist knowledge of Livestock Auctioneering, to extend our national reach through expert discovery and exploration of new and untapped business opportunities and relationships. Our ideal candidate will be trusted to dive right in, play a lead role in building a new digital livestock marketplace, use initiative, and extend our BKB-brand on this digital platform – and in so doing building, managing and growing our digital auction sales through our own marketing channels. Highly skilled at auctioneering services, sales and livestock business operations, this person will join and inspire a team of like-minded go-getters to achieve our company vision.
Role Mission:
The role is responsible for staging, managing and optimizing auctions on our own digital platform. You will develop an overall auction strategy and deliver it through our standard operating procedures that includes all execution elements including how we price livestock, how we determine a reserve, and ultimately how we achieve our sales volumes and margins per auction, in a repeatable and predictable way.
The incumbent will furthermore be responsible to deliver key inputs with regard to a traceability system for the South African livestock industry. Our ideal candidate will therefore have a sound understanding of the key technologies necessary to support such traceability systems. In addition he/she will demonstrate the necessary skills and ability to presenting these technologies (e.g. RFID) to livestock farmers and other key stakeholders (including government) by providing to them with a comprehensive understanding of how RFID’s driven traceability solutions connect with traditional physical farming level production – and ultimately to create a more holistic and better-connected ecosystem for agricultural supply chain optimization. This would equip our clients with the means of applying standards and governance processes to ensure that, through RFID’s solutions, appropriate records/digitized flow of value information from the producer is maintained and developed and available to the end consumer.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
•To develop an overall auction strategy across our digital platform and to convert the strategy into an operating plan with a tightly defined SOP’s;
•To ensure we achieve sales and margin targets through all auctions;
•Managing both our existing sales pipeline and developing new business opportunities through identifying trends and customer needs and building a short/medium/long-term sales pipeline in accordance with
targets;
•To create repeatable and scalable processes designed to maximize efficiency;
•To ensure we develop an automated and tech-centric approach to managing and optimizing our auctions;
•To be the voice of the customer internally and championing their needs in the online auction roadmap;
•To actively manage and optimize our sell-through-rate (STR) per auction by making data driven and commercially astute decisions on the fly, in real time;
•To monitor, manage and optimize performance and activity to increase our yield per auction;
•To generate auction policies and to manage all members based on these policies;
•To collaborate extensively with our Livestock Marketers to: (i) identify new clients (buyers and sellers) worth targeting; (ii) drive engagement and activity by all registered members; (iii) build high trust relationships with the highest value clients/ most active clients across our auctions;
•To manage and develop the SOP for the transfer of ownership including the speedy collection of funds;
•To ensure the proper checks and controls are reflected during the online sale process including but not limited to insurance and outstanding finance checks;
•To be highly analytical and produce insights on auction performance / KPIs and our overall client proposition;
•To continually review all auction processes and contribute suggestions for enhancements and improvement;
•To monitor all sales and performance of auctions and provide reporting and analysis to the senior management team;
•Take a lead role in the development of proposals and presentations for new digital business materials to create and nurture business opportunities and partnerships;
•Improvement of Animal Management for the Livestock Agricultural Industry through RFID technology
•Develop and analyse statistical data and product specifications to determine present standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished product
•Develop and build a technology-based data platform for the livestock industry through the collection and storing of the relevant information (e.g. breeding data, economical breeding values)
•To ensure optimal production (increased productivity and yield) by every animal that uses resources through the use of RFID tags and related equipment as well as the traceability of animal genetics on the
blockchain platform
•Motivate the team, track performance, and report metrics

Skills & Competencies, Qualifications and Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in business or management;
•Successful track record in Livestock Auctioneering, sales and negotiation, with at least five years of experience managing auctions, preference in the online Agri-sector;
•Strong written, spoken, listening, and interpersonal communication skills in English and Afrikaans;
•Working experience with sales techniques
•Proficiency using technology as well as with data analysis, forecasting, and budgeting
•Proven ability to plan and manage resources
•Experience with CRM software and a strong customer service orientation and have a natural ease dealing with customers
•Ability to deliver presentations
•Resourceful, “think-on-your feet” person with drive, initiative, and a real commitment to getting the job done
•Excellent organizational skills; leaves no detail unattended
•Excellent time management skills, the ability to multi-task multiple projects and initiatives effectively and prioritize work are essential
•Highly capable of meeting strict deadlines in a high-pressure, ever-changing environment
