The core purpose of the role is to direct, execute and co-ordinate the business plans of the Global Solutions business in the region in accordance with company policies, goals and strategic objectives & plans. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the growth and profitability of the branch, operational performance, financial performance and SHERQ related accountabilities.

1.Strategy an operational performance
a. Formulate operational business plans for the operational team to ensure that the Branch attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible (cascade to team and monitor progress).

2.Business development
a.Develop and implement growth strategies for Global Solutions in the specified region/branch
b.Understand and align to customers’ long-term strategies through operational Steercom sessions.

3.Financial management and profitability
a.Manage financial performance and reporting.
b.Prepare and gain approval of the annual budget (incl. PBIT, NWC (Net Working Capital), RONA hurdle rates) and subsequently monitor deliverables efficiently to ensure that budget targets are met, that revenue flows are maximised and that fixed costs are minimised.
c.Develop and maintain effective financial controls.

4.Customer centricity
a.Establish and maintain effective formal and informal links with major customer stakeholders to cement sustainable relationships and ensure contractual KPIs are met.
b.Lead the development and optimal use of operational – customer IT platforms.

5.Risk, Ethics and Compliance
a.Manage ethics, risk, governance in line with legislation, company policies & procedures, relevant regulations and Barloworld standards.
b.Direct the development and implementation of operational controls.

a.Drive all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures to create a safe workplace for all and meet legislative requirements.

7.Talent Management
a.Direct and control workforce planning of the business unit by championing an effective talent strategy
b.Ensure effective organization design, intellectual capital reviews, skills development and succession planning so that the Business Unit is able to achieve its key strategic, financial and transformation targets.

a.Develop, promote and direct the implementation of Barloworld Logistics’ transformation and sustainability policy and strategy in all aspects of diversity and inclusion, supplier development, community involvement.

9.Employee Performance
a.Implement an integrated performance management process to drive performance excellence
b.Drive a climate and culture of high performance and employee engagement, in line with Barloworld’s employee value proposition. Manage, develop and coach own team.

10.Procurement and Supplier management
a.Ensure that the procurement processes in each department are clearly communicated & used
b.Negotiate favorable contracts and implement service level agreements with relevant business unit suppliers who meet the company requirements as compliant and B-BBEE certified suppliers.
•BCom Logistics/ transport management or Business related
•Post Graduate MBA or equivalent relevant business management qualification
•5 to 10 years’ freight forwarding experience – including Customs, Incoterms and Sales – including managing a large team
•Exposure to management of Finances, HR, Risk and Safety
•3-5 years in Management of operational environment
•Interacting at Exco level
•Experience in general management of operational and functional responsibilities (such as HR, Finance, SHEQ)
•Have established networks within the relevant industry
Driver’s License
•Solid knowledge of the freight forwarding industry
•Sound understanding of business, freight, customs and transport related legislation
•Broad understanding of labour legislation
•Technical processes applicable to relevant contract
•Strong exposure to all managerial functions including Operations , HR, Financial, SHEQ, Risk and Governance
