Milpark Education is a registered Private Higher Education Institution offering business management education that focuses on the areas of management and leadership, financial planning and insurance, and banking across South Africa and in other parts of Africa.

Milpark offers full-time, part-time and distance learning Higher Education (HE) and Further Education and Training (FET) qualifications, as well as career-focused short courses. The higher education qualifications offered start at NQF level 5, extend into levels 6 and 7, and culminate in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at NQF level 8. Our financial planning qualifications cover the spectrum from NQF level 4 through to NQF level 8.

The Position

The main function of the position of Executive Dean is that of academic and strategic leadership within Milpark Education. Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Dean is a member of the Executive Committee of the institution and is responsible for shaping, leading and delivering world-class educational programmes and provides strategic oversight of the various schools in all aspects of teaching, research, and community engagement.

This includes the management of all programmes offered by the institution with a specific focus on quality assurance, planning and execution of all deliverables, academic development of staff and management of stakeholder relations. In addition, this role has a strong strategic focus to position Milpark as the preferred provider of qualifications in the field of financial services and commerce in the marketplace.


Strategic planning
•Benchmark educational offerings and best practice across academic institutions globally and locally
•Determine, articulate, implement and lead relevant strategic initiatives to enhance the institution’s reputation and performance
•Develop and implement an annual plan that includes specific annual deliverables and goals
•Keep abreast of developments and activities across academic partners and institutions globally and locally
•Seek and implement new initiatives to promote academic excellence
•Develop and implement a student support plan in line with Milpark’s strategic plan for student support and success

Academic Management and Leadership
•Develop the academic strategy and implementation plan for the institution
•Develop and oversee the implementation of academic policies and procedures within the institution
•Ensure compliance to all regulatory and quality requirements by keeping abreast of HEQC requirements and participating in relevant internal and
external quality management forums
•Manage the implementation of the annual academic plan for the various schools
•Initiate change where necessary (and in conjunction with the relevant management functions
•Assume full accountability for academic deliverables for the institution
•Conduct capacity planning to ensure that the various Schools are staffed efficiently and optimally at all times
•Build relationships with industry role-players, clients, bodies and SME’s with the purpose of expanding the institution’s academic network
•Take accountability for the optimisation of throughput and pass rates, as well as the implementation of the At Risk process for the institution

Financial Management
•Provide the required information for the annual budgeting process
•Demonstrate prudence in selecting and monitoring suppliers and in approving expenses
•Monitor budgets and expenditure monthly and report and address out of line situations
•Seek new ways to reduce waste and maximize resources
•Draw up and manage the academic and material development budget for the institution

Marketing/ Collaboration/ Networking
•Network and collaborate with other academic institutions and partners locally and globally
•Conduct corporate visits with the express purpose of raising the awareness of, and promoting Milpark’s programme offerings
•Constantly seek new opportunities to appropriately market Milpark
•Improve the profile of the institution generally through radio interviews, writing newspaper/magazine articles, research journal publications etc.
•Manage participation in surveys
•Oversee the delivery of popular press articles as required
•Oversee and participate in marketing events where appropriate
•Undertake talks / presentations where appropriate
•Assist with tenders, proposals and client presentations
•Ultimately accountable for the management of Milpark’s Alumni strategy

People Management
•Cultivate a culture of academic excellence
•Recruit, upskill and manage academic staff as required in accordance with Milpark’s performance management process.
•Develop succession plans for the School
•Proactively manage poor performance
•Provide regular coaching and mentoring to academic staff
•Oversee the performance management of all staff in the academic function
•Ensure that all the academic staff comply with the institution’s policies, procedures and rules
•Ensure the integration of the part-time academic staff into Milpark’s academic team

Programme Development and Management
•Take responsibility and ownership for the coherence and relevance of all programmes offered by the institution
•Oversee and ensure academic content excellence across all programmes
•Initiate new programmes and oversee the accreditation submission process
•Ensure that the capacity demands for new programmes are met timeously

•Oversee the implementation of research requirements
•Build and nurture an academic culture in which research is central
•Conduct research and publish articles in own field of expertise

Customer service and student contact
•Take overall accountability for the promotion of successful studies of students, as well as for student communication
•Deal with student queries, concerns and complaints as required
•Create a student centric culture within and across various Schools
•Manage the process for student complaints
•Monitor and address student satisfaction
•Ensure that the campus facilities are fit for purpose for students and staff (in collaboration with Campus operations) – where applicable

Service to the community
•Manage service to the community as an integrated part of the teaching function
•Create and maintain the necessary structures by means of which effective and relevant service can be delivered to the community

Education & Experience Requirements

•A minimum of a relevant Master’s degree in the relevant field
•A relevant doctoral qualification is preferable
•A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate and undergraduate tuition
•A minimum of 6 years academic management experience
•A minimum of 5 years higher education teaching experience in a relevant discipline
•Proven experience in curriculum design, programme development and accreditation
