Biosafety South Africa is a National Technology Platform within TIA which supports sustainable biotechnology innovation by enabling compliant, safe and sustainable research, development, production, use and application of biotechnology - including genetic engineering technologies. The platform seeks a dynamic, committed and multi-skilled professional for the position of Biosafety Project manager (Innovation) available at its Somerset West offices in the Western Cape.

•To manage the project portfolio related to sustainable biotech innovation and the Bioeconomy. Be responsible for the associated thought leadership, development and implementation of cutting-edge biotech innovation and biosafety products and services. The effective and efficient management of platform projects and investments in support of sustainable biotech innovation.
•Develop and execute projects aligned with the platform’s strategic objective to enable sustainable biotech innovation in support of the national bioeconomy.
•Monitor/track project progress and recommend spending/release of funds based on achievement of milestones & deliverables in terms of the project plan and/or agreement.
•Maintain an extensive knowledge of the national and international biotechnology, innovation and biosafety landscapes and literature.
•Gain and maintain an extensive knowledge of and experience with the SA system of biotech innovation, including relevant RD&I activities, governance frameworks and institutional arrangements.
•Active networking and partnering, identification of stakeholder needs and alignment/development of Biosafety SA services to address the needs of the national bioeconomy.
•Engage with external clients/project leaders on projects regarding progress and achievement of milestones and deliverables.
•Engage with internal service providers (Sectors, Commercialisation, Fund Management, Finance, Legal) to ensure effective integration and compliance.
•Establish contact and collaboration with other national and international sustainable biotech innovation and biosafety role players in support of regional biotech innovation.
•Identify individuals and groups for potential collaboration and new projects.
•Adherence to all relevant policies and frameworks.
•Ensure timeous and accurate reporting as per requirements.
•Review and manage project progress and performance against milestones, deliverables & other terms agreed upon.
•Monitor and pro-actively manage the progress and outcomes of projects.
•Ensure project objectives and expected outcomes align with Biosafety SA’s mandate and add value to biosafety risk analysis and sustainable biotech innovation management practices in South Africa.
•Resolve possible project audit matters.
•Act as a primary source of information regarding sustainable biotech innovation issues.
•Manage information resources on biotech innovation.
•Communicate biotech innovation issues
•Collaborate closely with all Biosafety SA team members to identify areas of synergy, ensure efficiency and increase impact.
Governance and Compliance
•Ensure compliance with Legislation, including PFMA and National Treasury Guidelines.
•Ensure compliance to all relevant accounting Standards, Policies and Frameworks.
•Ensure Compliance with TIA policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
•Facilitate compliance related to sustainable biotech innovation
Qualifications and Experience:
•Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or relevant, related qualification.
•Advantage: Project Management Certification.
Experience and Competencies:
•5 years’ biotech research, development and innovation
•Associated Project management experience.
•Advantage: Innovation management experience within an STI environment.
