Specification
Job Purpose:

Identify opportunities for TIA to provide an enabling environment for South African innovators to engage in biotechnology research and development through the creation of technology platforms or shared facilities in strategic areas. The incumbent will identify opportunities, build concepts into fundable business cases and mobilise support from stakeholders and partners, and manage implementation of technology platforms.

Duties/Outputs:

Financial
•Assist with the development of the Technology platforms’ budgets and forecasts
•Monitor and evaluate TP’s activities to ensure the allocated budgets and other resources are used according to the operational plan or business plan
•Identify opportunities and facilitate the sourcing of additional funding and resources to support the various programmes.

Stakeholder
•Create awareness of the unit’s offerings and services with potential customers
•Engage effectively with stakeholders and clients
•Effective reporting to internal and external stakeholders (DSI and others)
•Maintain an up to date stakeholder database and log of key stakeholder initiatives
•Ensure credible communication of the programme is developed and sustained.
•Participate in events, meetings, workshops and conferences by giving input, avail skill, competency and expertise.
Internal Processes
•Compliance with all TIA systems (performance management, HR, finance, Stakeholder information, fund management, reporting etc.)
•Adherence to all relevant policies and frameworks
•Review Platform business/operational plans and budgets to assess progress and implement corrective risk management measures
•Ensure standard operating procedure is followed; i.e.
oReview operational/ business plan in conjunction with external Stakeholder to ensure completeness,
oObtain approvals,
oCommunicate outcome,
oContract into agreements with successful applicants
oMonitor progress against targets
oreview activity progress and disbursements
•Manage exits, terminations and closures
•Assess, analyse and integrate information prior to capturing into the relevant system
•Ensure unit information is recorded and captured accurately on the FMS
•Streamline processes and procedures to maximize efficiency
•Stay abreast of related trends in the market
•Support the team in developing and implementing all relevant policies and frameworks.

Learning and Growth
•KPA’s are understood and achieved as agreed upon in the Performance agreement
•Review performance against agreed performance standards

•Identify and implement development opportunities to ensure continuous improvement of work effectiveness and efficiency
•Departmental Information systems and tools are optimally utilized to execute core tasks
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
•A four-year degree in Life Sciences
•A Masters’ degree in Life Sciences will be an advantage
•Minimum: Five years of post-qualification experience in innovation or technology development environment
•Direct experience in managing technology-based, large-scale programmes and/or projects will be an added advantage
