To apply professional accounting skills to the maintenance of financial accounting records for Swakop Uranium (SU), operate the Company cash management system, within set guidelines, by ensuring that the Financial Accounting Section maintained the required accounting records to meet all statutory, internal and external requirements.
Key Performance Areas:
•Financial Reporting: Prepares and assists with financial accounting reports and analysis for review and sign-off on a weekly, monthly and annual basis including (AFS and Group Packs); Assists to prepare correctly updated financial, statistics or regulatory records and reports required by laws, regulations, IFRS, or boards of directors; Executes and maintains IFRS standards, statements and policy; Liaises with IT in respect of software requirements for reporting; Prepares additional reports and information on an ad hoc basis.
•Governance, Internal Controls and Systems: Adheres to and implements the internal control and governance framework; Proposes improved internal control policies and procedures; Identifies and implements system enhancement and improvement projects; Implements measures to prevent fraud and mitigate financial risk.
•General Ledger, Trial Balanced and Month-End Processing: Executes the monthly financial accounting procedures to produce the final Trial Balance; Ensures accurate monthly final entries of all debits and credits; Executes accounting processes: Bank, Petty cash, Creditors and Fixed Assets; Co-ordinates the timely and accurate month-end procedures and processes; Reconciles all balance sheet accounts and sign off to month-end deadlines; Completes all final reconciliations, journal entries and provisions; Prepares all month-end journals, including depreciation, prepayments, provisions and accruals; Prepares and reviews all required month-end reports e.g. TB reports, debtors’ age analysis, creditor’s age analysis and General Ledger Reconciliations; Controls the debtors’ management system; Controls debtors and invoicing; Deals with stakeholders in management accounting, procurement and inventory management to ensure accounting is streamlined by these upstream processes; Monitors incoming and outgoing stock for obvious faults or defects and reports these to the Materials and Warehouse Manager; Maintains effective and efficient binning operations to ensure that goods are correctly, securely and neatly binned and that the relevant documentation is completed and processed; Weighs and counts items for distribution within the mine to ensure conformance to company standards; Identifies, examines and inspects stock items for wear and defects, loss or surplus of goods and materials stored in the warehouse, and reports any damage to the Materials and Warehouse Manager; Posting of the Bank statements; Completes the Bank reconciliation; Reconciles other sub ledgers: AP and Debtors.
•Prepare Taxation Calculations and Returns: Prepares monthly tax calculations and VAT returns for review and sign-off within statutory deadlines; Prepares and submits local and international VAT (or equivalent) returns accurately and timeously; Prepares income tax and deferred taxes for review and sign-off; Calculates and posts all tax calculations; Reviews monthly withholding tax liability and ensures completeness and accuracy; Prepares withholding tax returns and submits to authorities by due dates.
•Fixed Asset Registration and Depreciation: Prepares the process to capitalise assets; Loads all new assets and scrap assets on the system; Ensures correct stock entries loaded and balances accurate; Runs fixed asset register after all required changes made; Reviews the Asset Depreciation journal; Ensures cost centres are correct and depreciation reasonable before posting; Executes tax and wear-and-tear postings.
•Accounts Payable Sub-Ledger and Inventory: Reviews and corrects all inventory accounting and control accounts; Reviews the monthly AP Ledger – accurate and complete; Reviews monthly suspense accounts for receipts not invoices (GRV) and inventory accounts; Closes the sub-ledgers and ensures recording in correct period on a weekly basis.
•Maintain External Relationships: Establishes and maintains relationships with external suppliers, software providers, regulatory authorities, individual or business customers and provides assistance with problems that may arise, ensuring a cost effective, quality service; Liaises with internal managerial staff and other colleagues; Responds to financial enquiries by analysing and interpreting relevant financial data; Provides financial advice by studying variances, preparing budgets and developing forecasts.
Requirements and experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Financial Accounting.
•Certified Chartered Accountant (“CA”) is required.
•Minimum 8 years Financial Accounting experience, of which 3 years should have been in a Supervisor capacity.
•Indebt knowledge of IFRS and Group reporting and the application thereof.
•Exposure to commodity marketing and invoicing requirements with special reference to IFRS and Group Reporting
•VAT and Tax experience will be an advantage.
•Knowledge of Exchange control regulation and the application will be an advantage
•Experience in the mining industry a distinct advantage
•Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License
