The above position has become available in our Research Department at our Head Office in Johannesburg. Reporting to the Research Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of organizing the tillage, planting, irrigation, fertilizing, pest and weed control, general farm maintenance & harvest of seed research, marketing and production plots.

•Manage all aspects of crop husbandry for a variety of vegetable crops and research trials
•Oversee administration and budgeting of the farm unit
•Organize and hire seasonal labour, manage farm workers, and effectively co-ordinate and allocate all farm resources according to the needs of a diverse team of plant breeders and production officers
•Liaise with researchers on a regular basis and give updates on trials
•Responsibility for maintaining all farm machinery, equipment and vehicles
•Manage fertilizer & irrigation requirements for research and production both in the nurseries and the field
•Agricultural Diploma / similar tertiary qualification
•Skilled in vegetable farming practices, more specifically, management of outdoor and protected vegetable cultivation
•Thorough mechanical knowledge and understanding of modern agricultural practices and horticultural techniques
•Sound knowledge of crop chemical usage, budgeting and maintenance of mechanical and irrigation equipment.
•Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
•Proficiency in both English and Afrikaans
•Computer literacy (word and excel) essential
•A valid driver’s license
The successful candidate will be required to reside on the farm.
