In delivering ‘social science that makes a difference’ in South Africa and the region, the Research Programmes and Units of the Human Sciences Research Council initiate and undertake policy-oriented research projects and programmes from its offices in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Its public-purpose mandate is set out in the Human Sciences Research Council Act of 2008.
The various Operations directorates in the HSRC, which Information Technology Support Services (IT) forms part of, provides the infrastructural and administrative platform for achieving the organizations’ overall goals.
The IT unit seeks to appoint a suitably qualified incumbent, to provide front line technical support to all internal staff for all computer-related problems. This by ensuring that, all the computers, laptops, printers, audio and other ICT hardware are working to their maximum potential; ensuring that all problems are fixed quickly and efficiently. An essential element of this job is the provision of prompt and effective problem-solving and troubleshooting to the ICT customers through a centralized service desk when system failures or dysfunctions occur. The successful incumbent will be based in Pretoria on a five (5) years’ contract.
|Job Functions||Information Technology|
•Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability.
•Troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
•Repairing or replacing damaged hardware.
•Upgrading the entire system to enable compatible software on all computers.
•Installing and upgrading anti-virus software to ensure security at the user level.
•Performing tests and evaluations of new software and hardware.
•Providing support to users and being the first point of contact for error reporting.
•Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.
•Ensuring computers daily backup are running.
•Managing technical documentation
•Perform other related duties of similar nature.
•3 years of experience in computer networks and systems maintenance
•A+, N+ Linux and or Juniper networks associate accreditation advantageous or similar
•Good written and verbal communication
•Good knowledge of digital tools
•Good IT problem-solving skills
•Extensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of various computer software packages, including Windows, Ms Office, 0365 etc.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, using excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to relay technical procedures to end-users in an understandable format (non-IT jargon)

•Minimum requirements 3-5 years ICT technical support
•Good communication skills
•Strong knowledge of Microsoft products and hardware
•Ability to analyse and resolve technical problems
•Preparation of functional requirements specification
