Main purpose of the job
To support the University’s strategic development, by providing direction and oversight in driving financial and operational performance, by ensuring financial sustainability of the institution in the long term. Furthermore, in providing strong leadership to the finance function, sustaining a culture of high performance and customer service with clearly articulated and agreed goals. The incumbent is expected to challenge the status quo in the planning and delivery of services, driving improvement to the financial operations of the University; and provide support to the Vice-Chancellor and Principal to ensure effective financial management and commercial sustainability of the institution.

1. Develop financial policies and strategic plans for the section and institution2. Manage the Finance Section, including overseeing the operation of the following units:
•Accounting Services, Assets Management and Financial Reporting
• Supply Chain Management (Procurement, Creditors and Central Stores)
•Student Accounts, Financial Support, Bursaries and Loans
3. Ensure the financial sustainability of the institution in the long term
4. Develop, implement and monitor a budget for the section and the institution
5. Manage the performance and development of staff
6. Provide and present Financial Reports
7. Represent the University at external forums

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or Experience
•Chartered Accountant CA (SA) or equivalent, e.g., Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA).
•8 years relevant experience in a financial environment of which at least 3 years should have been at a senior management level and preferably in a Higher Education environment.
•Good understanding of the latest King report on Corporate Governance
•A business and/or commercial leader operating at Board/Council level
•Excellent technical finance skills and be a confident communicator able to influence across a multifaceted organisation.
•Capacity to think strategically and innovatively and will be adapt at working in a changing and complex environment.
•Committed to CUT’s values, demonstrating an ability to balance a commercial perspective in support of the overriding mission of the university

•All the above
•Master’s qualification in Finance
•10 Years relevant experience in a financial environment of which at least 5 years should have been at a senior management level and preferably in a higher education environment
