Main purpose of the job
To executive the objectives of the Chair as in the agreement with the NRF and promote the activities of the Chair. The following items are relevant but is not limited to it:

1. Lead research and innovation activities in the field of Medical Product Development through Additive Manufacturing
2. Supervise postgraduate students and secure external research funding within the CRPM Research Centre environment
3. Take a leading role in the development of research capacity within the department
4. Participation in community service projects relevant to current research projects
5. Industry liaison in collaboration within the existing CRPM Research entities
6. Primarily responsible for writing up research results gathered by a research team and publishing in accredited journals with appropriate acknowledgment and co-authorship within the within the CRPM Research Centre environment.

Minimum Qualification/ Knowledge and/or
To be appointed as Professor:
•A relevant SAQA approved Doctorate level degree (i.e., D Tech / PhD / D. Ed. / NQF 10 or equivalent)
•At least eight years’ teaching / lecturing experience in the relevant subject field
•Evidence of advancing knowledge through research output, post-graduate supervision and presentations at national and international conference in line with CUT’s promotion requirements which requires:
o4.5 credit units at Associate Professor level or 9.0 cumulative credit units (books, chapters in books, articles in accredited journals, papers published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, patents, etc.)
oTwo completed master’s degrees and two completed doctorates (as main supervisor or promoter) at Associate Professor level OR six completed master’s degrees and five cumulative completed doctorates (as main supervisor or promoter) OR at least one completed master’s degree (as main supervisor) and one completed doctorate (as main supervisor) and at least 18.0 cumulative credit units
oNineteen cumulative presentations/papers at conferences, of which at least six cumulative presentations/posters at an international conference
oInvolvement as an editor/reviewer/external examiner
•Should be an outstanding and innovative researcher whose accomplishments have made a major impact in the field of Additive Manufacturing and preferably also in Medical Product Development.
•Should be knowledgeable in research management and administration.
•The candidate must show the capability to network, collaborate develop and support internal and external networks, collaboration and eco-systems related to Additive Manufacturing Medical Product Development Research Centre
•Candidate should have excellent record in external fund-raising successes
•Professional Registration, where applicable
Also need to comply with NRF requirements:
•Should be a South African National Research Foundation rated researcher meeting the criteria of the SARChI and must be a recognised expert in Additive Manufacturing for Medical product Development.
•Should be recognised internationally as an undisputed leader in their field and/or have received substantial international recognition for their research contributions.
•Should have a superior record in attracting and supervising postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows, considering the practices of the field.
