The Position
The general purpose of the role is to teach and assess students via both the distant learning (DL) and distant learning online (DLO) modes of delivery. The successful candidate will be known as the academic owner (AO) and will be responsible for a set of subjects, each with its own set of deliverables and task that should be managed by the AO.

Industries Academic

Programme oversight (where applicable)
•Develop and document admission and exemption policies for the programme and manage implementation of these policies.
•Track and manage student throughput on assigned programmes, in consultation with PMs, including the oversight of “at risk” student management.
•Action items that come out of specific student surveys and focus groups, in coordination with programme managers.
•Draft accreditation documentation for new programmes; review existing programmes and make interim changes as required.
•Conduct and minute regular meetings with all module owners on qualification to ensure that qualification objectives are met.
•Monitor curriculum development implementation, performance, and quality of assigned programmes.

Recruitment, performance management and people development
•Recruit PT academic staff (lecturers, examiners, critical readers, authors, moderators, tutors, supervisors, markers) for assigned areas.
•Manage induction and development of new PT academic staff.
•Manage the performance of lecturing staff to ensure that part-time lecturers meet Milpark’s standards.

•Implement the Milpark assessment procedures for assigned programmes and subjects.
•Lecture and assess on assigned programmes in field of expertise and manage the course environment on myMIlpark.
•Manage the authoring of new/review of existing material.
•Manage the assessment drafting process for assigned subjects across programmes within timelines as required.
•Conduct internal moderation on assigned subjects.
•Conduct regular quality checks on assessments drafted in the department.
•Sign off all marks for assigned modules, manage academic assessment discrepancies and make recommendations to the Results Committee.
•Arrange guest speakers for lectures and general alumni/other sessions.
•Assist students with content related queries and deal with requests for extra student support.

Customer Service
•Meet with students on academic issues in terms of agreed schedule (also on progression and articulation options).
•Capture information on contact with students on the system, upload all documents and record all academic decisions.
•Address student academic queries and disputes.
•Upskill sales and support staff on all matters relating to programme.

Special projects and business consulting
•Assist in the planning and delivery of special projects as required by management.
•Stay abreast of developments in area of expertise and network within community of experts.
•Provide consulting services as and when required in field of expertise, in consultation with management.
Education & Experience Requirements

•Undergraduate BBA/BCOM qualification at NQF 7 in a related business management field.
•Preference will be given to Honours and Master’s candidates.
•Minimum three years’ industry-related experience
•Minimum one year experience in higher education.
