MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To apply and monitor the application of safety and health systems and procedures in areas of accountability. Provide support with the investigation of incidents in order to identify causes and prevent recurrence, including inspection of areas in order to identify potential hazards and make recommendations for improvement. The position also advises and consults with line management, employees and contractors on safety and health practices and development.

Key Performance Areas:
•Implement and monitor compliance of the safety and health management plan, standards and procedures.
•Attend safety and health committee meetings and provide information and statistics to line management, employees and contractors.
•Support senior management team in developing appropriate continuous improvement plans.
•Maintain an appropriate Emergency Response capability on site.
•Continuously assess contractors’ SSHER Management Systems to ensure that they meet or exceed Swakop Uranium’s standards.
•Manage compliance of contractors to SU and their own SSHER management systems requirements.
•Conduct safety and health inspections as per schedule, identify nonconformance and ensure implementation of corrective action.
•Perform workplace inspections and assessments and drive corrective action plans.
•Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations and audits.
•Coordinate and implement investigations of all accidents resulting in serious injury to personal and/or damage to equipment and evaluate preventative action and/or recommend preventative action accordingly.
•Investigate incidents, identify root causes and implement remedial action.
•Identify and eliminate safety and health hazards / risks.
•Provide training on the SSHER and Loss Control programs to Swakop Uranium’s (SU) employees.
•Conduct safety and health site induction and awareness training.
•Assist contractors with continuously improving their SSHER performance.
•Track and report monthly safety statistics.
•Compile safety and health reports and statistics, by maintaining statistics which provide information regarding past and potential accident areas, and analyze statistics for trends.
•Compile and submit monthly reports and statistics to management.
•Manage incident reports and safety meeting records.
•Keep detailed records of safety equipment.
Requirements and experience:
•Grade 12 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management or related field with 5 years Safety and Health experience in the mining industry, OR
•Grade 12 with a National Diploma in Safety Management or related field with 7 years Safety and Health experience in the mining industry.
•Certificate (SAMTRAC/SHEBA/NEBOSH or similar) will be an added advantage.
•Valid First Aid Certificate.
•Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
